Maruti Baleno 6 lakh sales

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, leading automakers in India, once again topped the charts in terms of sales volume, even as the company reported a 17.2 percent sales decline. During the past month, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,11,014 units as against 1,34,036 units sold in June 2018. Taking into account sales in the April -June 2019 period, MSIL sales stood at 3,63,417 units. A decline of 20.8 percent as compared to 4,58,967 units sold in Q1 FY2018-19. MSIL sales are undertaken under its Maruti and Next network. Both have reported sales decline for the said period.

Hyundai Motors, is in second spot on the list of automakers in terms of domestic sales. HMIL reports 7.3 percent sales decline for June 2019. Domestic sales stood at 45,371 units in June 2018. It dipped to 42,007 units in June 2019. Exports increased. At 9 percent, June 2019 exports are up at 16,800 units from 15,408 in June 2018. Cumulative sales dipped 3.2 percent. Down to 58,807 units from 60,722 units sold in June 2018. Hyundai India domestic sales for Q1 FY2019-20 is down 7.73 percent. Sales have contracted to 126514 units for April – June 2019, down from 137114 units sold in April – June 2018.

Mahindra, the only automaker to post positive sales, reports 8 percent increase in sales. Domestic sales stood at 18,826 units in June 2019, up from 18,137 units sold in June 2018. Mahindra XUV300 and Marazzo has helped post positive growth. Sales in the UV segment is up 8 percent increase at 17,723 units in June 2019. Up from 16,408 units sold in June 2018. Sales of passenger vehicles and vans dipped to 1,103 units. Down 36 percent from 1,729 units sold in June 2018.

Tata Motors passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market dipped 27 percent. Down to 13,351 units in June 2019 from 18,213 units sold in June 2018.

Toyota Kirloskar India also continued to struggle with sales through June 2019. Sales dipped 19 percent in June 2019 to 10,603 units from 13,088 units sold in June 2018. During the period January to June 2019, Toyota Kirloskar Motors registered a 10 percent decline in sales. The company sold 68,652 units during this period as against 75,992 units sold during the same period of the previous year.

Honda Cars India also registered negative sales in June 2019. Sales dipped as much as 41.4 percent to 10,314 units as against 17,602 units sold in June 2018. Exports fell 48.15 percent to 252 units in June 2019. Down from 486 units exported in June 2018. In the past month, Honda however noted good sales for its 2nd-gen Amaze which was launched in May 2018. Sales crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone in India in 13 months.

Renault India sales fell 18.6 percent to 5,400 units as compared to 6,636 units sold in June 2018. Renault India now gears up for the launch of the 2019 Duster on July 8, 2019. The Renault Triber compact MPV is slated for launch soon.

Ford India sales fell 36.84 percent in June 2019 to 5,333 units. Down from 8,444 units sold in June 2018. The company launched the Ford EcoSport Thunder last month at Rs.10.18 lakhs. EcoSport price stands revised at around Rs.14,000-57,000 less, depending on variant.

Volkswagen also suffered due to lower sales which fell 16.28 percent to 2,463 units. Down from 2,942 units sold in June 2018. The company is working on updating the ageing Polo and Vento range in India.

Datsun sales dipped as much as 60.7 percent to 1,132 units in June 2019. Down from 2,882 units sold in June 2018. Nissan the seemingly bigger of both brands had a miserable showing. Sales dipped to 401 units. Down 36 percent from 627 units sold in June 2018.

Skoda India sales decline at 29.9 percent has reduced sales volume to 987. That’s way lesser than 1,394 units sold in June 2019.

Jeep India continues to suffered. Compass sales, a majority contributor for the brand has dwindled. And now that number stands at 791 units for June 2019. Down 46.48 percent from 1,478 units sold in June 2018.

Fiat sales in double digits is nothing to write home about. As bizarre as it sounds, the 52 units sold last month are actually an improvement. Up 30 percent from 40 units sold in May 2018.
