Further details have been revealed of what auto enthusiasts can expect from the 2014 Volkswagen Passat. As per revelations, the new model will be built on the MQB platform. MQB stands for Modularer Querbauksten meaning modular transverse matrix which will also be seen on the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. Because of this new technology, base model of Passat will weigh 1400 kgs and the new platform will not only contribute to lower weight but lower costs as well.

VW Passat 2014 will also sport besides standard equipment, a new infotainment system along with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. Its diesel engines will comply strictly to the new Euro 6 emission formalities while petrol engines will have a start – stop system along with cylinder deactivation. If rumors are to be believed it is expected that the 3.6 liter V6 engine will be done away with an in its stead will be a 2.5 liter turbocharged, five cylinder engine.

A plug in hybrid is also in the offing with 1.4 liter TSI petrol and electric engine and a lithium ion battery which can produce 170 PS and travel upto 50 kms solely on electricity.
