August 16 to 18, 2012 saw the tenth edition of Volkswagen Sachsen Classic 2012 being held. A host of Volkswagens took part in these events which was witnessed by a multitude of spectators amidst the beautiful landscapes of Leipzig to Dresden.

Volkswagen Classic participated with a total of 14 vehicles which were also chosen from Museum on Wheels. The lineup was from 1961 to 1987 which included a wide range of Volkswagen vehicles. At the events it was models made in Osnabruck that drew a fair amount of attention. These included Karmann Ghia Type 14 in convertible and coupe form and 1303 Golf Cabriolet convertible. Lars Riedel contributed a unique piece in the Type 34 Karmann Ghia Convertible.

Another major attraction was the Lufthansa Bulli T1 and Beetle special model. Brazilian Puma GTS and Karmann Ghia TC 145th also received credits. Past and present Volkswagen vehicles rubbed shoulders at the Volkswagen Sachsen Classic 2012. Present day models included Volkswagen Golf GTI convertible and Golf I Convertible.

The tenth edition of the Saxon cult-classic Volkswagen rally surprised once again with automotive rarities.

Beautiful landscapes, boundless enthusiasm and fascinating cars: For three days, from 16 to 18 August, had rare classic free travel in the Free State. For the tenth anniversary of the traditionally supported by Volkswagen Sachsen Classic tens of thousands of spectators flocked to the track.

After the start of the Saxon cult classic in Zwickau we went in three stages over Leipzig to Dresden. On a total of 615 kilometers an ambitious, varied course waiting for the approximately 190 teams: Idyllic paths, historic sites such as Castle Altenburg monastery Nimbschen or Mildenstein, exciting automotive stations such as the Volkswagen factory in Mosel, the Sachsenring and the Transparent Factory in Dresden Volkswagen – in its tenth edition, the Sachsen Classic to its reputation as one of the finest rallies in Germany more than fair.

Volkswagen Classic started with 14 vehicles selected from the Museum on Wheels at the applied uniformity as rally driving. The line-up from the years 1961-1987 demonstrated the wide range of Volkswagen product history. Especially the classics made in Osnabrück surprised and delighted the audience, the Karmann Ghia Type 14 (as a convertible and coupe), the 1303 Golf Cabriolet convertible, and the first generation. Crowd favorite Lars Riedel contributed a unique piece: the discus gold medalist and five-time world champion from Saxony in the Type 34 Karmann Ghia Convertible was – a never gone into series production prototypes – a usual strong performance.

Equally impressive were traveling by Lufthansa Bulli T1 and the legendary Beetle special model, the yellow-black racer, which put his sporting qualities once again demonstrated. For applause time and again provided the rare Brazilian Puma GTS and Karmann Ghia TC 145th Also, the team of the Transparent Factory in Dresden – the home of the Phaeton – sat with proven success in rally cars like the VW-Porsche 914/4 and the Golf GTI. A total of three special stages were won by Classic Volkswagen vehicles.

The history and present at Volkswagen are closely linked, an automotive Familienduo demonstrated on the field of International Friendship in Zwickau: Volkswagen Golf GTI Convertible, the new Classic presented together with the Golf I Convertible.
