Volkswagen sporty Beetle E-Bugster Cabriolet concept at Beijing

Among the flood of new and luxury vehicles on display at the Beijing Motor Show, Volkswagen has showcased their new E-Bugster concept. E-Bugster coupe had earlier debuted at the Detroit Motor Show but the Cabriolet will be powered by an all electric drivetrain. It will have a 115 hp electric engine with lithium ion batteries and on a full recharge the vehicle will be capable of 110 miles. The E-Bugster battery can be fully recharged in as much as 35 minutes.

The E-Bugster Cabriolet is based on the Coupe version with a few alterations such as the windshield is 90mm lower than that seen on the coupe while there are also special concealed partition behind the rear seats for housing of the electric motor. Both the coupe and cabriolet are of the same dimensions

The concept has 0 to 60 miles per hour capacity in 10.9 seconds with a range of 110 miles. The electric drive system is rated at 114 hp. One can see a chopped windshield and flared fenders with LED lighting in the front. The electric version of Beetle convertible should be priced higher than the base Beetle 2.5 liter which is available at $20,565 including $770 shipping charges. The German automakers have also a gas powered Beetle convertible which is expected to debut in November 2012 at the LA Auto Show.
