Rumors have started doing the rounds again. For the umpteenth time Alfa Romeo has been in news over probable take over. This time Volkswagen has been linked with a buyout of Alfa Romeo from its owners Fiat. The Economic Times reported that a higher placed VW manager said, "Alfa is a globally recognized brand with sporty genes and a great tradition. If such a treasure could be had, we must not hesitate too long."
VW has been continuously linked with Alfa Romeo's takeover. Volkswagen has created immense cash of $22.3 billion over the years in order to overtake Toyota in size by 2018. The report added that when contacted to a Fiat spokesman, he said, "As already said by (Chief Executive Sergio) Marchionne, there is no plan to sell the Alfa Romeo brand." On the other hand Volkswagen was unavailable for any comment.
