Rainer Zietlow and his team conquered the distance from Melbourne, Australia to St. Petersburg in Russia in 17 days, 18 hours and 49 minutes. The Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI cross country adventure road trip concluded at St. Petersburg after the off road enthusiast and his team from Melbourne set out at the end of July to embark on this nonstop journey from the southernmost Melbourne to northern city of St. Petersburg under some most extreme track conditions.

The journey was conducted specifically to deliver a welcome message from the Mayor of Melbourne to the Mayor of St. Petersburg which needed to be delivered personally. The journey commenced smoothly with Zietlow and his team confident of conquering both rugged terrain and rough weather, but had to contend with trying conditions in Indonesia which resulted in spending more days than planned.

It was thanks to the highly fuel efficient 3.0 liter V6 TDI engine that Rainer Zietlow and his team were able to conquer this record feat. Their off roader Volkswagen lived upto expectations, consumed 30% less fuel, emitted 25% less CO2 and proved to be a stable and sturdy companion during the entire stretch of the journey.
