XL1 Diesel / Electric Hybrid by Volkswagen was recently caught testing. This two seater was seen in concept format last year and will go into production by early 2013. The vehicle has combined fuel consumption of 0.9 lt /100 km (100 kmpl) while offering 261 mpg in US and 313 mpg in UK. Tests were being conducted on this new concept two seater in Spain as the car is readied for production though in a very limited run.

Volkswagen XL1 will be powered by a 0.8 liter turbocharged twin cylinder diesel engine along with a 27 hp electric motor mated to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission and lithium ion battery. This hybrid power plant will generate output of 74 hp. The vehicle is light weight weighing just 795 kgs due to its carbon fiber reinforced polymer parts and will measure 3888 mm in length, 1665 mm in width and 1156 mm in height.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is possible in 11.9 seconds while maximum speed is pegged at 160 kmph. Auto emissions are well within limits as the car emits 24 g/km with a battery power range of 35 kms and a combined range of 550 kms. Pricing will be announced closer to launch dates.
