Volvo Concept Coupe and Drive E powertrains at 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA)

Volvo Concept Coupe was revealed at a press conference held at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It showcases the company’s new Scalable Product Architecture along with highly efficient four cylinder Drive-E powertrains which are being offered in six of the company’s models.

Volvo_Concept_Coupe (24)Concept Coupe is the first of a series of three concept cars that will be introduced, with XC90 coming in next year. Drive-E powertrains from Volvo will be in the form of two liter four cylinder Drive-E powertrains which will be launched by 2013 autumn.

For a start, the S60, V60 and XC60 will come in with the new engines 306 HP petrol turbo T6, 245 HP T5 and a turbo diesel D4 with 181 HP power. D4 and T5 engines will also be offered on Volvo V70, XC70 and S 80 and each of these engines will be mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox from Aisin or a six speed manual.

The concept car at Frankfurt features a high performance gasoline engine mated with an electric motor on its rear axle. This gives the Concept Coupe an output of 400 hp and 440 lb/ft torque. Volvo’s four cylinder engines offer enhanced performance as compared to today’s six cylinder units and lower fuel consumption as compared to current four cylinder engines. Volvo Cars also introduced a new infotainment system and safety features in the 60-series.
