Volvo will be replacing their XC90 SUV in 2014. The new XC90 will feature a platform, which will be shared by next gen S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70, and S80 models.
Dramatic reduction in fuel consumption and emissions is on the cards for the new Volvo XC90 due to introduction of 8 speed transmission and improved aerodynamics besides drastic reduction in mass. The current XC90 tops at 2200kgs in some guises. The company is also looking at a possibility of twin charging – supercharger and turbocharger together, while plug in hybrids are suitable for all wheel drive vehicles. The XC90 replacement is scheduled to come in first by end 2014 and will soon be followed by a replacement for the S80. New S80 is being developed specially for Chinese markets and will sit on a long wheelbase.
The entire lineup of Volvo cars, excluding the newly launched V40 family, will receive new efficient and powerful engines. Volvo will be launching the V40 in India by March 2013.
