Volvo Trucks India Fuel Watch competition 2014
5th edition of Volvo Trucks India Fuel Watch competition was held at a Managuru coal mining site near Kothagudem earlier in June. 24 of the country’s best Volvo tipper operators in mining segment across India participated.
The annual fuel efficiency competition entails a rigorous qualification process. Volvo Trucks uses the platform to educate drivers, fleet managers, customers and other about better driving practices. Fuel efficiency is critical in mining transport profitability.
Volvo Trucks India Fuel Watch competition highlights safe driving skills, and understanding tech in high performance tippers. Mr. Philippe Divry Sr. Vice President AB Volvo & VECV Board member highlighted that Volvo Trucks India is the fisrt CV manufacturer here to set up a Training Center to improve driver skills on demanding apps.
Vinod Aggarwal, CEO VECV emphasised on importance of fuel reduction for enhanced cost saving and lower environmental impact. R Satyanarayana from BGR Mining & Infra Pvt. Ltd. was adjudged winner, J Sampath Raju from SV Engineering Constructions 1st Runner-up, and Sudharshan Dhal from Montecarlo Limited 2nd Runner-up. Difference in fuel efficiency between highest and lowest fuel efficiency in the competition was 18%.

Volvo Trucks Driver Training Centre conducted the competition giving each driver identical conditions and opportunity on a pre-detrmined route. Human error is eliminated as data is secured from Volvo’s electronic management system that records trip data, which is downloaded through trip manager software from the truck itself. Thus far, over 50,000 drivers have been trained.
