At the start of production of new Ameo in Pune, VW India announced that they are working on updating their 1.5 liter diesel engine. As of now this engine delivers 103 hp and 230 Nm torque. Once updated, it will deliver 108 hp and 230 Nm torque. VW India will first launch this engine with the Vento, followed by Polo, Rapid and Ameo in the next few weeks.
Apart from the bump in power by 5 hp, it will also deliver better mileage than what it delivers today. To get a better idea, currently on board the Polo, this engine delivers 20.14 kmpl via 5 speed MT, 20.64 kmpl for Vento 5 MT, and 21.5 kmpl for Vento 7 AT.
Speaking about their upcoming car Ameo, VW India is expected to launch the car only with a petrol 1.2 liter 3-cyl TSI option at first. Diesel 1.5 Liter will follow at a later stage. It is believed that VW India wants to offer the updated 1.5 liter mill with the Ameo diesel from start, and hence the delay.
Launch of VW Ameo is scheduled for the second half of next month. Developed at a cost of INR 720 crore, production is in full swing at the company plant in Chakan, near Pune. VW India has also initiated a third shift to meet the demand of Ameo once launched.
VW Ameo is the company’s first sub 4 meter sedan. It will compete with the likes of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Dzire, Tata Zest. It will come with some segment first features like cruise control, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and so on.
