VW Polo GTI 6-MT spied in India without camouflage

A prototype of the VW Polo GTI 6-MT has been spotted somewhere along the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The 3-door hot hatchback is expected to be launched in India later this year, perhaps in the festive period.

The Polo GTI test mule appears to be sporting a 15-inch wheel compared to the 16-inchers employed by the international variants. Higher profile tyres are more suitable for India, given the inconsistent road consistents.

It’s unclear whether VW India will import the GTI as a CBU or CKD.

The sports hatchback is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which produces an impressive 190 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The motor is mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The automatic variant is capable of breaching triple digit speed from stand still in just 6.7 seconds which will make it the quickest accelerating hatchback in the country. With a rated speed of 236 kmph, it will also be the fastest hatchback in the country.

In addition to giving up the rear doors, the Polo GTI differentiates itself from the regular hatchback by means of a red-highlight on the grille with GTI badge, new bumpers, exclusive alloy wheels, skirts, larger roof-mounted spoiler, rear diffuser and GTI badges on the front fenders.

GTI gets new color theme and trim materials while design is not very much different from the regular variants.
