Sunday’s Chase Opener at Chicagoland Speedway saw Johnson lead for 172 laps but was unable to overtake Keselowski which resulted in latter gaining his 8th career win. Johnson was close behind while Kasey Kahne came in third followed by Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman in fourth and fifth place. If these spates of events continue on the same vein during balance 9 races remaining in this championship it is in all probability that Keselowski will be the No.1 in rankings.

Where IndyCar events are concerned, Ryan Hunter Reay has overtaken Will Power making him first US driver to earn an IndyCar title since 2006 while he is currently in No.10 sport in rankings. Taking Castrol EDGE USA Driver’s Rankings into account, top five are Will Power (IndyCar), Jimmie Johnson (Sprint Cup), Tony Stewart (Sprint Cup Nationwide), Kasey Kahne (Sprint Cup Nationwide, NASCAR Trucks and Brad Keselowski (Sprint Cup, Nationwide, NASCAR Trucks).

Will Power missed out of an IndyCar title for third straight season as he crashed out of 2012 Fontana finale. This was first time that Power and rival Ryan Hunter-Reay clashed on circuit with the Australian racer losing rear of his car in the 55th lap ending up against a wall. However, for Powers his early exit did not have any impact on his position and he continued with his 7th overall lead and top ranked IndyCar driver.
