Yamaha Ray is the first model from Japanese two wheeler majors Yamaha Motors to enter Indian scooter segment. This two wheeler is priced at Rs.46,000 and the company has already received a record booking of 6000 units in just 2 weeks of launch. Ray is launched in India with special emphasis on college goers and urban young female riders who form the main target group, though the company has also received orders from some men. Keeping in mind their target audience, Yamaha India is now associated with Pond’s Femina Miss India (PFMI) 2012 which allows them to leverage the recently launched scooter ‘Ray’.

Yamaha hopes to sell between 45000 to 50000 units by the end of this year while they are targeting 20% market share by 2016. Yamaha Motors have also come up with plans of a third factory in Chennai with an investment of Rs.1,500 crores. This new plant will commence production from January 2014. Major sales have been targeted for the coming years. Yamaha Motors plans to achieve sales targets of 1 million units by 2014 which they hope to double by 2016 while it should reach 2.8 million in 2018.

Yamaha Ray possesses a 113cc engine with 7.1ps at 7500 rpm and 8.1 Nm torque. It weighs 104 kgs and is slated to be the lightest scooter in its class. Available in a choice of six colors consisting of burgundy, black, blue, pink, grey and purple, the Ray displays a high level of performance, fuel efficiency and balance.
