Yamaha R25 was launched in Indonesia earlier today for a price of 53 million Indonesian Rupiah ($4,662 or €3,376 or INR 2.7 lakhs). Weighing 166 kgs, and powered by a 249 cc engine, R25 is rated at 36 PS max power @ 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm peak torque @ 10,000 rpm. It will be offered in a choice of three colours – Diablo Red, Racing Blue, and Predator Black.
Speaking about their new motorcycle, Eko Prabowo, GM Marketing Communication and Community Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing, says, “Yamaha YZF – R25 offered are loaded on the machine technology and advanced features that are targeted to consumers in Indonesia and the Global.
As for India, Yamaha R25 is expected to be launched in India by November 2014. The bike has already arrived in India for R&D. Once launched, Yamaha R25 will compete with the KTM RC 390, which too is expected to be launched in the coming months. Compared to the RC390, R25 performance figures are weak, but they make it up in styling and have offered a complete bike, as they show in the short film below. And this is just the first part of it. Yamaha Motor Announce Manufacture and Sales of YZF-R25 in Indonesia. New fully fledged 250cc sports model for global market
IWATA, May 20, 2014 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) announced today that the new YZF-R25, an addition to the YZF-R supersport series and powered by a 2-cylinder 250cc engine, will be released onto the Indonesian market in July 2014. Manufacturing and sales of the new model will be carried out by Yamaha Motor’s group company, PT. Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM).
The YZF-R25 has been developed both as a global model and leading force for business scale expansion as set out in Yamaha Motor’s new medium-term management plan (2013-2015). Therefore, the new model is also developed with both the ASEAN and developed markets in mind.
Using the concept ‘superbike you can ride every day’, the new YZF-R25 achieves a high level of performance and stylistic features worthy of the ‘supersport’ title through class-leading engine output, as well as a lightweight body and design that continue its lineage from the YZF-R series. In addition, the new model is nimble and easy to handle for everyday use as well as offering an exhilarating ride in a wide variety of scenarios.
In Indonesia, the popularity of sports models has been increasing in recent years. In response to this, YIMM is carrying out brand strategies that focus on the sporty side of motorcycling, along with existing marketing activities centered on motorcycle racing. For example, YIMM launched Yamaha Motor’s flagship supersport models – the YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 – last November, and in May this year, YIMM kicked off its manufacture and sale of the YZF-R15. The launch of the YZF-R25 further expands the YZF-R series lineup. With this launch, there will also be initiatives for further sales expansion and brand strength improvements.

In 1998, Yamaha Motor launched its new flagship supersport model YZF-R1 (1,000cc), which won acclaim for its exciting performance on winding roads, thanks to the combination of its high-performance engine and lightweight frame. Since then, Yamaha Motor continued its expansion of the YZF-R series through the launch of YZF-R6 (600cc) and YZF-R7 (750cc). And in 2008, YZF-R15 (150cc) and YZF-R125 (125cc) were introduced to India and Europe respectively. The new YZF-R25 is developed not only for the Indonesian market where the popularity of sports models has been increasing, but also as a 250cc supersports model to cater for the global market.
1) Newly-developed high performance two-cylinder engine
The YZF-R25 is equipped with a newly-developed 250cc, liquid-cooled inline two-cylinder fuel-injected engine. In order to promote faster combustion, the new engine was designed using the latest analysis technology to actively generate a tumble (a vertical whirl of air-fuel mixture) in the combustion chamber while obtaining an optimum flow rate of the engine’s air-fuel mixture. As a result, the engine boasts a class-leading power output while also offering a power delivery suited for daily use. In addition, the new engine uses Yamaha Motor’s unique DiASil (Die casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders, which offer excellent heat dissipation and lighter weight. This is the first time this technology has been implemented in 2-cylinder engines made by Yamaha Motor.
2) Mass-centralized lightweight body
A simple and lightweight steel frame with minimal curves and welding is employed. The new YZF-R25 offers excellent handling through various features, including the front suspension with 41mm inner tubes, one of the largest in the class, Monocross suspension that contributes to mass centralization, and a rear arm that has the same axial distance ratio as the YZF-R1.
3) Body design inherited from the YZF-R series
The new YZF-R25 features a sporty and advanced-looking design worthy of the YZF-R title. The mass-forward silhouette and sharply-sculpted rear end inherit the DNA of the R-series. The reverse-slant twin headlights for a sharper look, an air duct that evokes a sense of high performance, shift timing indicator identical to the YZF-R1, and other features are also derived from previous YZF-R designs.
