One of which indicates that Kawasaki is working on a 4 cylinder 250cc engine, very similar to those all Japanese bike majors offered back in the days. Kawasaki sold Ninja ZXR-250 with such an inline 4-cyl engine with DOHC that produced 45PS maximum power @ 15,000 rpm and 25Nm peak torque @ 11,500 rpm. While it is thrilling to anticipate 2015 Ninja to equip a similar motor, it is less likely to reach reality.
Now we hear a new gossip that Yamaha will introduce YZF R3 sports bike in European and North American markets with a 320cc engine, instead of distributing Yamaha R25 with a 250cc mill there. Said R3 is believed to bear new 3 cylinder crossplane crankshaft engine, to compete with upcoming Honda CBR300R and present Kawasaki Ninja 300.
We have reason to believe Yamaha R25 will outperform Ninja 300 on the streets. We know R25 beats Honda CBR 250R, CBR 300R, Ninja 250 FI from unofficial tests and reports. Does Yamaha really need to make such a move to be ahead of competition? That is if the rumour turns out to be true.
