No R125, but Yamaha Saluto 125 cc launch confirmed for 17th April

Biking enthusiasts in the country have been awaiting the launch of Yamaha’s flagship 125 cc motorcycle, the R125 in India for quite some time. Though Yamaha has already said it will not be feasible to launch R125 in India, the fans have not stopped requesting.

Yamaha YBR125

But, there is a new 125cc motorcycle which Yamaha India will be launching soon. This is in the form of new Yamaha Saluto, which was spied a few days ago. New Yamaha Saluto will be launched in India on 17th April 2015.

From the leaked image, it is possible that the new Yamaha Saluto will be Yamaha’s new entry level 125 cc motorcycle. Devoid of body graphics, and rather simple looking; it will sit below the existing YBR125 entry level 125 cc bike, once launched. Price of Yamaha YBR125 starts at Rs 50,846, ex-showroom Delhi. Price of Saluto could be in the Rs 48k range.

If this is not the case, then it is also possible that Yamaha might replace the YBR125 with Saluto, as the former has failed to perform as to expectations.

To be powered by the same 123 cc engine, which is seen on board the existing range of 125 cc bikes of Yamaha; this engine generates 10.88 PS power at 7,500 rpm and 10.40 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. Transmission is taken care by a 4 speed gearbox. We do expect the engine to be tuned more towards fuel efficiency, expect mileage claim to be in the range of 70-80 kmpl.

Yamaha India is currently concentrating at building a larger customer base. With monthly sales growing continuously, they want to continue with their slow, but steady increase in market share. One of the latest entrant in the two wheeler industry (the company was formed in 2008), their sales today average at 40-45k monthly. With the launch of new Saluto, they will surely add to more sales in their register.
