Yamaha YZF-R25 online booking records 2,800 orders in 25 hours
Yamaha Motor Indonesia was overwhelmed by the number of Yamaha YZF-R25 bookings it received, especially how fast it happened. Yamaha created the website iwantyamahar25.com to let fans book their rides online from 00:00 hrs on 22nd May 2014. The internet booking for R25 was planned to be open for 25 hours and only 500 allotments were in Yamaha’s cards.
To add more adrenaline to auto aficionados’ arteries, Yamaha decided to give away Valentino Rossi AGV helmets for first 250 enthusiasts who booked YZF-R25 online. The helmet could cost anywhere between $220 to $1400 as per AGV’s online store. But Yamaha didn’t stop there, 5 more lucky customers who couldn’t get the AGV Helmet would be declared winners of Dainese VR46 leather jacket (imported from Italy), which has a retail price tag of $700.
But according to sources, it seems there was an interesting turn of event! Yamaha Indonesia planned to sell only 500 YZF-R25 bikes online, but within 30 minutes of commencement of booking, 700 people registered for their R25. Yamaha then doubled its booking allowance to 1000 orders, but by 10:00 in the morning, the toll shot up to 2,020! Then the booking portal was temporarily suspended to take a breath and brainstorm on next POA (Plan Of Action). After few hours, registration form was accessible again and booking continued. At the end of 25th hour, Yamaha YZF-R25 received 2,800 bookings!
In the midst of this overshooting, customers experienced some technical glitch that got them puzzled. The colour of Yamaha R25 they selected was recorded mistakenly in the server, which the customers got to know from the confirmation e-mail they received. Yamaha Indonesia was then notified of this error and the company stated that they would communicate with customers via SMS to note down their R25 colour preference and make sure they get what they wish for.
Launch price of R25 is 53 million Indonesian Rupiah (2.71 lakhs in Indian Rupees).
