Tata Nano, the cheapest car in the world, failed to garner the expected sales figures. Facing a host of constraints right from the outset, the Nano was re-introduced in 2012 with a number of improvements over its previous model.
This helped to induce sales for a brief period and Nano managed to get in the list of top 10 car’s sold in India for 2012 (9th position). But, that push is now gone. Tata Motors registered their worst ever Q1 sales for Nano this year. Plus, the number of Nano’s parked at Sanand facility is huge.
All this, has pushed Tata to launch a new Nano with major improvements. Official details are yet to be revealed, but the new Nano is expected to feature new engine options, which include a powerful petrol 800 cc unit, a diesel 800 cc unit and a CNG option as well.
The new 2013 Tata Nano is now getting ready to be launched in markets (but we are not sure of the engine techspecs to be offered at first) in the coming months and was recently caught undisguised while being filmed for an advertisement, by OverDrive. It was seen that the exterior of the Nano remains practically unchanged while it possesses certain variations as was seen in the Tata Nano Concept displayed at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. These come in the form of a chrome strip across its bonnet lip and another seen above the rear bumper.
Bearing a new blue exterior paint on its exterior, interiors of the 2013 Tata Nano also remains the same. Besides the current petrol variant, Tata Nano will also be offered with a CNG twin cylinder unit. The diesel variant details were leaked online. It will receive an 800cc turbocharged, two cylinder unit capable of producing 40 bhp power at 4000 rpm and 94 Nm torque at 2,500 rpm.
