BMW X5 measures a total of 4886mm in length, 1938mm in width and 1762 mm in height, which means that it is taller, wider and higher than its earlier counterpart. Despite these dimensions the SUV weighs 80 kgs less than the earlier X5 due to extensive use of high tensile steel in its makeup. Interiors of BMW X5 are more luxurious with premium leather, while head and leg room is also enhanced and boot space is increased from 650 liters to 1870 liters with its rear seats turned down.
Engine updates on board the new X5 include a turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 petrol engine offering 444 bhp peak power. This engine will be seen on board xDrive 50i while xDrive 30d will receive a turbocharged 3.0 liter in line 6 cylinder common rail diesel engine offering 254 bhp power. Both engines will be mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission while prices of X5 are expected to start from INR 75 lakhs. The all-new BMW X5 will be locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai from third quarter of 2014.
Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “The BMW X5 – the founder of the Sports Activity Vehicle segment and globally best-selling car in its class – is entering a new chapter in its successful history.
