Speed and agility are major attributes of the new second generation Range Rover Sport which is now being displayed for the first time at 2013 New York Auto Show. Range Rover Sport is more sporty, while interiors will be stylish and seen with a host of infotainment and safety features. Scheduled to go on sale later this summer, 2014 Range Rover Sport will come in a new all aluminum body design resulting in lighter weight of nearly 420 kgs as compared to the outgoing model. Agility and speed are being projected as the Range Rover Sport’s chief characteristic, while quick responsiveness is also a core attraction.
Range Rover Sport is longer than its predecessor, while it sits on a longer wheelbase thereby contributing to additional internal space. Based on Range Rover Mk4, the new Sports variant also possesses 75 percent unique parts. Adaptive Dynamics system, Continuous Variable Dampers and dedicated Dynamic mode in Terrain Response 2 System will be seen in 2014 Range Rover Sport.
Engine options however, vary as per country, with the North American version receiving two gasoline engines of 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine offering 335 hp and 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine offering 503 hp. The European version will come with a 5.0 liter V8 supercharged petrol engine offering 503 hp and a 3.0 SDV6 diesel engine offering 288 hp. Early next year, two more diesel engines of 3.0 liter TDV6 and 4.4 liter SDV8 will be added, while an electric diesel hybrid variant is also scheduled to be introduced.
Safety features will include Head Up Display, Digital Camera System supporting Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and Automatic High Beam Assist. A new Wade Sensing feature is being offered which indicates depth while driving the Sport through water.
Prices of the 2014 Range Rover Sport start from $63,495 (INR 34.52 lakhs) and go up to $93,295 (INR 50.72 lakhs) in the US. Deliveries commence this September.
