Excluding a few exceptions, most Bajaj two-wheelers have recorded negative growth in September 2019. The situation wasn’t any better in the last couple of months. Just like other manufacturers in auto sector, Bajaj too has been hit by slowdown.

Surprisingly, Bajaj’s net profit for quarter ending September 2019 has zoomed 22% to Rs 1,402 crore. Strong exports and benefits derived from corporate tax rate cuts are the primary reasons for surge in Bajaj’s net profit in Q2, FY20.

Top selling Bajaj bike is CT 100/CT 110, one of the most popular entry level commuter bikes in the country. CT 100 is known for its high fuel efficiency and reliable performance. CT 100/CT 110 sold 51,778 units in September, which translates into MoM gain of 21.61%. However, YoY sales have fallen -42.07%.

At second spot is Platina with sales of 43,978 units. Both MoM and YoY sales are down -1.78% and -34.80%, respectively. Platina is another preferred option for people looking for an affordable way to commute. The company had recently launched Platina H Gear variant that comes with segment-first 5-speed gearbox. H Gear is short for Highway Gear and the company claims that the additional gear ensures smooth rides on highways and also improves fuel efficiency. As per ARAI, Platina H Gear fuel efficiency is 84 kmpl.

At number three is Pulsar 150, another bestseller in the company’s portfolio. A total of 33,320 units of Pulsar 150 were sold in September 2019, translating into MoM gain of 0.17% and YoY loss of -48.66%. Next on the list is Pulsar 125, another emerging star for Bajaj. Lunched in August, Pulsar 125 has crossed the 40k sales milestone in just around two months. Sales in September stood at 20,688, which translates into MoM gain of 4.18%.

Combined sales of Pulsar 160, 180, and 200 are 9,210 units, which is MoM and YoY loss of -19.26% and -42.03% respectively. Other bikes in the list are Pulsar 220F (5,850 units), Avenger 160 (3,701), Discover 100 (1,468), Avenger 220 (1,251), Dominar (828), and Discover 125 (471). Overall, 1,72,543 units were sold in September 2019, translating into MoM gain of 3.20% and YoY loss of -7.30%. Pulsar range MoM and YoY figures are -2.12% and -22.72%, respectively.

Earlier this month also announced the launch of their electric two wheeler, a scooter. Yes, after years of saying NO to scooter, Bajaj has finally entered the scooter segment, with Chetak e-scooter. Launch will take place in Jan 2020, only in Pune and Bangalore first. Price has not been revealed. It will be about Rs 1.1 lakhs as per estimates.
