2015 BMW X6 has been launched in India in xDrive40d variant at a price of INR 1.15 cr (ex-showroom, pan-India). The luxury coupe SUV is imported into India as a CBU from BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the US.
When first gen X6 was launched globally in 2008, it created a new coupe SUV segment which has grown in popularity ever since. The second iteration steps in after 250,000 units of the original model were sold. Both Mercedes GLE Coupe and upcoming Audi Q4 are products which are now looking to join X6 in the lucrative niche segment.
Since X6’s strikingly distinct silhouette enjoys great fan following, BMW designers haven’t changed much in profile. The front fascia however undergoes revisions that are intended to align the luxury SAV with the brand’s latest design direction. The car is available with M Sport design package.
Rear fascia gets new LED taillights in addition to reskinned boot lid and bumper.The new headlamps flow into the larger kidney grille and a busy looking front bumper adds to the sportiness of the car. The rear fascia receives reskinned boot lid, bumper and revised LED taillights. The interior features a comprehensively revamped dashboard with new steering wheel, instrument console, centre console and a stand-out iDrive display.
The interior is shared with new X5 which is already on sale in India.Usage of high strength steel, thermoplastics, aluminium and magnesium has resulted in weight reduction of up to 40 kg which directly translates into better efficiency and lower emissions. The India-spec variant continues to be available in xDrive40d diesel variant which is powered by a inline six-cylinder 3.0-litre diesel engine which pumps out 313 PS and 630 Nm of torque. A 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters disperses power to all the four wheels. The engine delivers a mileage of 15.87 kmpl under European Driving Cycle.
