2016 Ford EcoSport S variant with no spare wheel begins testing in India

2016 Ford EcoSport test mule was spied in India, as it tries to run away from an enthusiast who happened to be quick in clicking.

Ford EcoSport facelift makes the car look less of a crossover, shedding its tailgate mounted spare wheel for an alternate solution.

Debuted at 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, 2015 Ford EcoSport is subjected to cosmetic and minor functional revisions. It is yet not confirmed whether this variant will be launched in India, or is it only for exports. If it is to be launched in India, the degree of alignment of this newly updated international model is unclear.

Manufactured at Ford plant in Chennai, India, EcoSport is also exported to 50 markets across the globe. This includes European markets as well. Considering that the new EcoSport S variant is due for launch in Europe later this year, it could be possible that the car in spy shots here is purely an export variant, which has entered testing phase.

Apart from that, the rear swing-gate modified to allow simple partial opening in case of congestion, would also make it to 2015 EcoSport.

New Ford EcoSport S variant loses the the tailgate mounted spare wheel, gets new 17 inch alloys, black roof, no roof rails, sporty rear diffuser, decreased ground clearance (by 10 mm), privacy glass feature, and new mirror caps. Apart from these exteriors changes, the chassis and suspension setup too has been refined for better drivability.

On the inside, the overall layout remains same, but it does get a better finish. Titanium variant gets partial leather seats, charcoal black finish for door boards, centre console, and instrument panel; 4 inch colour display, chrome tabs on power window switches, relocated handbrake lever, backlit dimming option, optional spare wheel with tyre mobility kit.
