The under 4 meter compact sedan segment is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian auto industry. Currently, this segment sees average monthly sales of 30,000 units; which is expected to grow four folds by 2020. It is this segment where the new Ford Figo Aspire sedan was launched yesterday
Dominated by Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent, the segment also features Tata Zest and Chevrolet Sail sedan.
Showcased as a concept at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, and officially unveiled when Ford India commissioned their new engine and car production plant in Sanand earlier this year in March, Figo Aspire sedan pricing has surprised us.
Offered in two engine options, three transmission options and nine variants, Figo Aspire will be the first of three cars Ford plans to launch in India this fiscal.
Designed from the ground up based on input consumers, Ford Figo Aspire brings a fresh new design language to the segment. The front of the car is dominated by a hexagonal chrome grille, which is based on the new Ford Global design language for new cars. Flanking the grille are large elongated headlamps which flow along the sharp, muscular bonnet lines. This along with a swept-back windshield gives the new compact sedan a very aerodynamic look.
The design of Figo Aspire has been perfected after 140 hours of wind-tunnel testing.
The side look is enhanced with new alloys, body coloured door handles and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators. The thick A, B and C pillars in addition to the sharp shoulder line complete the side look. The rear look attempts to give the car a premium look thanks to a thick chrome strip running between the lamps.
Offering a two tone (black and beige) dashboard, Aspire’s dashboard is loaded with tech. It offers premium touch and feel, along with comfortable leather seats with adjustable headrests.
There are enough places to store your belongings inside the cabin – front doors can hold 1.5l and 1.0l bottles, three cup holders in between front seats, large glovebox, pocket on the roof with rubber mat to store your sunglasses, best in class legroom, and a enough room to seat three adults in the rear seats.
Engine, Transmission and Mileage
2015 Ford Figo Aspire sedan will be offered in three engine options, two petrol and one diesel – all of them four cylinders.
1.2L TiVCT Petrol
This motor is a refined version of the same petrol 1.2l motor which does duty on the existing Ford Figo hatchback. Aboard the Figo Aspire sedan, this motor is mated to a five speed manual gearbox which delivers 88 PS and 112 Nm torque to the front wheels. Mileage claimed by this variant is 18.2 kmpl, while CO2 emissions are at 130 gms/km.
1.5L TDCi Diesel
Claiming mileage of 25.83 kmpl, this engine delivers 100 PS power and best in class torque of 215 Nm. Mated to a five speed manual gearbox, Ford says that this engine delivers high low-end torque; which helps in better pick-up and smooth acceleration. CO2 emission of this variant is 102 gms/km; which is least of all three options.
1.5L TiVCT Petrol
The only automatic transmission option on offer, this motor delivers 112 PS power and 136 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed dual clutch gearbox. Mileage claimed by this engine is 17.2 kmpl.
