Next gen Ford Figo is set to commence production at the company’s new manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, on 1st April 2015. Same car was launched in Brazil first as Ford Ka, in last July. Both Ka hatchback and Ka+ sedan will be sold in India as Figo hatchback and Figo sedan (sub-4 metre). Former will replace the supposedly discontinued current generation Figo and latter will sweep Ford Classic sedan off from the market.New Ford Figo is expected to be placed in between lower and upper B-segment, to compete with with Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio, Honda Brio, Chevrolet Beat and also Maruti Swift and Tata Bolt. Ford Figo compact sedan will take on other sub-4 metre sedans like Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Maruti Dzire.
Engine options include 1.5 litre TDCI diesel motor replacing current 1.4 litre TDCI unit, with slight bump in power and torque from 68 Bhp to 75 Bhp and 160 Nm to 190 Nm respectively. This engine will be mated to 5-speed manual transmission.
Petrol variant of new Figo is expected to receive 1.0 litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine without a turbocharger, in 80 bhp and 105 Nm tune, also linked to 5-speed gearbox. There are remote chances for 1.5 litre TiVCT engine to be offered in range-topping variants.
