Maruti Ertiga sales cross 1 lakh in record 1 year – Thanks to XL6

Maruti Ertiga sales record

Launched back in November 2018, the second generation Maruti Ertiga has created new sales record by becoming the fastest MPV to achieve 1 lakhs sales in the segment. In under 1 year, new Maruti Ertiga has recorded sales of over 1 lakh units.

Bigger, wider and more powerful than before, the new gen Ertiga sales were averaging in the 8k region. But back in August 2019, Maruti launched a more premium NEXA variant of the Ertiga called XL6. This new variant gave Maruti Ertiga sales added boost.

If it was not the XL6, Maruti Ertiga sales would not have crossed the 1 lakh mark in under 1 year record time. Post launch of XL6, sales of the Ertiga + XL6 has averaged over the 10k mark every month. Maruti Ertiga + XL6 sales peaked last month, when 11,525 units were sold. This is also the highest ever monthly sales recorded by the Maruti MPV duo. Below is how the Maruti Ertiga has performed in sales over the last 12 months.

Maruti Ertiga sales performance last 1 year

The new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has increased in dimensions, comes in based on the lighter and safer new-gen HEARTECT platform, receives well appointed interiors and with petrol and diesel engine options.

Exteriors boast of projector headlamps, boomerang shaped LED tail lamps and 15” alloy wheels. Interiors receive leather wrapped steering wheel, wood inserts on dashboard, height adjustable driver seat, roof mounted AC vents for third row and automatic climate controls. It is fitted with a SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features include rear parking sensors with camera, push button start/stop, dual airbags, ABS, ESP and hill hold assist.

The second gen Ertiga gets its power via a K15B 1.5 liter petrol engine and a D13A 1.3 liter diesel engine. In April 2019, the E13A 1.5 liter diesel engine was also added to the list, which will be discontinued by March 2020. This is because it is not BS6 compliant.

In July, a CNG variant was introduced while the D13A diesel (1.3 liter) engine was discontinued and the K15B petrol engine got updated to be BS VI compliant. The 1.5 liter petrol engine offers 105 bhp power and 138 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual and 4 speed AT while the 1.3 liter diesel makes 90 bhp power and 200 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual.

The new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is priced from Rs.7.55 lakhs, while the Maruti XL6 is priced from Rs 9.8 lakhs – making these a cheaper alternative to bigger MPVs like Mahindra Marazzo and Toyota Innova.
