2015 Maruti Ertiga SHVS diesel hybrid will be a new addition to the variant lineup of the popular MPV when the facelifted version goes on sale in India this October. SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) is a mild hybrid technology which is aimed at achieving a significant boost in fuel efficiency.
Suzuki has not discussed about the SHVS in detail but during the unveil of IK-2 concept (Baleno premium hatchback), the automaker said that the technology incorporates an Integrated Starter Generator which assists the engine, regenerative braking and a compact Lithium ion battery.
According to Suzuki, SHVS is ideal for improving the fuel efficiency and reducing the emissions of compact models. In Ertiga, the SHVS module will be matched with the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine which produces 90 PS and 200 nm of torque. The mild hybrid system is expected to boost the compact people carrier’s mileage by a good 3-5 kmpl.
In addition to this significant mechanical upgrade, facelifted Ertiga which was unveiled at the ongoing GIIAS 2015 in Indonesia features cosmetic changes such as bigger chrome grille, new bumpers and alloy wheels, taillight extensions and a new chrome strip on the tailgate.
Interior gets dual-tone black-beige dashboard, new seat fabrics and added equipment such such as one-touch driver side window, powered wing mirrors, and 50:50 split third row.
Though the SHVS system for 2015 Ertiga will be imported by Maruti, the high cost would be offset by government’s subsidy for hybrid vehicles under FAME and lower excise duty of 12.5% for green cars.
