Mr Eberhard Kern, MD, Mercedes Benz India at the launch event with the new A Class.

As a part of the company’s ’15 in 15’ strategy, wherein 15 new cars will be making their official launch during the year, today two new Mercedes Benz cars were launched. This follows the launch of new CLA Class and C Class diesel variant earlier this year.

Speaking about the new A Class, the design remains unchanged. What is new, is the addition of a few equipments, and a new diesel engine under its hood. 2015 Mercedes Benz A Class diesel now comes with a 2.1l diesel motor which generates 136 PS and 300 Nm torque. The older variant had the same motor, but it delivered 109 PS and 250 Nm torque. This means, that the A Class, B Class, GLA Class, and CLA Class, all share the same diesel engine, with same output.

It also means, that the new A Class and B Class diesel hatchbacks are more sportier to drive than before. Speaking about the new diesel engine aboard the A 200 CDI, Mercedes Benz India claims that compared to the old engine, this one delivers 25% more power and 20% more torque, and still offers a better fuel efficiency.

Mercedes A Class is brought into India as a CBU as of now, but local production will start later this year. Start of local production is not expected to result in lowering of price. Price of new A Class petrol starts from Rs 25.95 lakhs and that of A Class diesel starts from Rs 26.95 lakhs. All prices ex-showroom Mumbai.
