Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched updated versions of flagship sedan Camry, today. New version of Toyota Camry petrol is priced at Rs. 28.80 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), and price of 2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid is Rs. 31.92 lakhs.Said to be the pioneer in hybrid technology, Toyota has sold over 7 million hybrid vehicles all around the world. The company sells two hybrid cars in India, Camry Hybrid and Prius Hybrid.
According to the Japanese automaker, it has sold over 8,000 Camry’s in India. The D-segment premium sedan was launched in the country in 2002. In 2012, the car began local manufacturing, and a year later, Camry Hybrid was introduced. At present, it is said around 73 percent of total Camry sales constitute the Hybrid variant.
Toyota Camry Hybrid is driven by Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain, which is a full hybrid unit. The two power houses working together are a 4-cylinder 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle engine and a high torque electric motor, producing a combined output of 205 PS max power. Transmission duty is taken care of by an Electronically Controlled Continuous Variable Transmission (E-CVT). Mileage claimed is 19.16 kmpl and CO2 emissions per km is 122.8 grams.
First-in-segment features in both versions of Toyota Camry include, 8-degree electronic reclining rear seat, rear armrest with controls for the same, rear windshield power sunshade, music system and 3 Zone Air Conditioning.
Apart from this, the new Camry now also benefits from FAME scheme from the Indian government. FAME stands for – Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles in India. As the phase 1 is now implemented, Toyota Camry Hybrid gets a subsidy of about Rs 70,000. This has been included in the launch price of Rs 31.92 lakhs.
