2015 Volkswagen Touran unveiled, first MPV based on MQB platform

Germany’s best selling MPV, Volkswagen Touran has been updated. First launched in 2003, over 19 lakh units of this MPV are already sold. With 2015 Volkswagen Touran, the MPV enters its third generation.

Longer and more spacious than its predecessor, the 2015 Volskwagen Touran is longer by 130 mm and has a wheelbase which is longer by 113 mm. Cargo capacity is also increased by 48 liters to stand at 1040 liters when rear seats are a turned down flat. Weight of the 2015 Volkswagen Touran is also considerably reduced as compared to its earlier model as it sits on an MQB platform, making it the first MPV to be based on VW’s popular modular transverse matrix platform.

Being offered in both petrol and diesel engine options, the 2015 Volkswagen Touran receives a 1.2 TSI 110 hp engine, a 1.4 TSI 150 hp engine and 1.8 TSO 180 hp engine besides a 1.6 TDI 110 hp and 2.0 TDI 150 and 190 hp engines. Each of these engines come in with start/stop facility and brake energy recuperation thereby resulting in fuel saving of upto 19 percent.

Abounding in both safety and infotainment features 2015 Volkswagen Touran boasts of adaptive cruise control, automatic post collision braking, front assist with city emergency braking, traffic jam assist, side assist with rear traffic alert and trailer assist. Tailgate can be opened by the owner by just a wave of the foot. LED headlights with tri zone climate control system can be selected as an option with MirrorLink technology.

Another option is the electronic voice amplification system with front mounted microphone allowing for easy communication between front and rear passengers. The Volkswagen infotainment system consists of five radios and navigation system with DAB+ digital radio for which Volkswagen is offering Google Android Auto and Apple Car Play and MirrorLink technology.

Order books for 2015 Volkswagen Touran are slated to open this summer while deliveries will commence by second half of this year.
