The updated 3 Series has started testing in India, indicating that launch is not far away.

2016 BMW 3 Series, or 3 Series Life Cycle Impulse as BMW likes to call its facelifts, has been spotted on board a flat bed truck in Pune. The facelifted luxury sedan is suspected to be undergoing final evaluation at ARAI before going on sale in the country sometime later this year.

BMW has promised several new launches in India and the updated 3er could very well be one of them. Visually, the Mecedes C Class rival receives minor revisions such as a revised front bumper with wider air intake and LED headlamps (available on select variants). The rear bumper is reprofiled in addition to new LED lights.

Interior is more or less left untouched. BMW claims that the suspension is stiffened and steering system has been sharpened but we doubt that the former will be offered in India-spec version. The popular 320d variant with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine will continue to be the prime model for India. The engine features improved turbocharger for better response and tweaked 8-speed automatic transmission for better efficiency.

New gen BMW X6 and X5 M to be launched on July 23

With its 2016 3 Series, BMW India would be looking to take on the renewed competition from Mercedes C Class, Volvo S60 along with upcoming next gen Audi A4 and Jaguar XE (both of which are slated for 2016 launch in India).
