2016 Ford EcoSport facelift for Europe is up for order with deliveries slated to commence shortly. The compact crossover will continue to be shipped to Europe from Ford India’s plant near Chennai.
A temporary halt of production of export-spec model (to upgrade to facelifted version) could explain why Ford India sales (domestic + exports) saw a sharp decline in June. The automaker registered 33% negative growth with total sales of only 7,979 units.
Coming back to new European EcoSport, customers can specify their cars without tailgate-mounted spare wheel. In that case, the mini SUV will feature a reprofiled tailgate with license plate enclosure getting a new location.
Other improvements include new steering wheel, relocated handbrake lever, additional chrome detailing, partial leather seats (in Titanium variant), Winter Pack with heated windshield, steering wheel and seats, tweaked suspension, ESP and steering wheel for better dynamics, and a new EcoSport badge at the rear. Ford also claims that NVH quality has been improved.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine gets a 5 PS hike while the 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engines continue with same output figures. The engines are now upgraded to Euro 6 emission norms.
With an army of compact SUVs coming its way, Ford EcoSport is expected to receive a facelift in India in the foreseeable future.
