Original Story – 17th Aug
2016 Kia Sportage compact crossover has been teased through a set of three official sketches ahead of its global debut on September 17 at Frankfurt Motor Show. The new gen SUV has nothing in common with its predecessor in terms of exterior and interior designs.
Proudly wearing Kia’s TigerNose front grille, new Sportage features interesting Porsche-like headlamps that are mounted on the front fenders. The sketches don’t reveal finer details of the design but expect the crossover to feature silver skid plates, lower body plastic cladding, roof rails and large alloy wheels.
The rear fascia is characterized by triangular wraparound LED tailights, a big black bumper and a compact windshield.
The cabin receives a revamped dashboard which appears to borrow certain bits from Optima sedan and Sorento SUV. Highlights include a chunky flat bottomed steering wheel, driver focused centre console with infotainment display and premium seats.
Likely to be based on Hyundai Tuscon’s platform, Kia’s latest SUV is expected to be powered by a family of new gen GDI petrol and CRDI diesel engines. More details will be available at the time of unveiling.
Kia is expected to commence European sales of 2016 Sportage towards the end of this year. Hyundai’s sister brand has no immediate plans on venturing into India though it is having a tab on the market.
