2016 Mercedes GLE SUV, the ML Class replacement revealed in official photos

2016 Mercedes GLE SUV will replace of the existing Mercedes ML Class when launched in the coming months. It will be offered with both gasoline and diesel engine options while a hybrid powertrain will be introduced later this year.

2016 Mercedes GLE SUV

Mercedes GLE 300d is the diesel offering while its gasoline models will be the GLE350 and GLE400. Once a hybrid variant is introduced it will sport a GLE550e badge while AMG models will be GLE 63 and GLE 63 S.

Basically a Mercedes M Class facelift, the new GLE will receive a host of similar features though a new front fascia, revised grille and new headlights will be evident. At the rear, new LED tail lamps and revised exhaust system will also be seen. 2016 Mercedes GLE will sit on 20” alloy wheels finished in titanium grey while interiors will be seen in colour options of ginger beige, espresso brown, saddle brown and porcelain.

Engine specifications on offer on 2016 Mercedes GLE SUV will include a 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 engine offering 333 PS power and 480 Nm torque, a 4.7 twin turbo V8 engine offering 435 PS power and 700 Nm torque, a 2.1 liter four cylinder turbo diesel engine capable of 204 PS power and 480 Nm torque and a 3.0 liter V6 turbo diesel engine with 258 PS power and 620 Nm torque.

2016 Mercedes GLE 63 SUV

GLE 500e 4MATIC plug in hybrid will be powered by a 3.0 liter BlueDIRECT V6 engine and a 8.8 kWh lithium ion battery pack mated to a 7 speed 7G TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. These two engines in conjuncture will offer peak power of 442 PS and peak torque of 650Nm and will be capable of travel upto 30 km on pure electricity.

Mercedes GLE lineup goes on sale in August while launch of the hybrid is pegged for September. No pricing details have been announced which will be revealed closer to launch.
