2016 Mitsubishi Montero relaunched in India, arrives at dealerships

The Montero is priced at par with several well established luxury SUVs.

The Mitsubishi Montero (called as the Pajero in several international markets) which was discontinued in India has been relaunched as a CBU model. The SUV has arrived at Mitsubishi showrooms across India.

The latest iteration is essentially a facelifted version of the same generation which was on sale in India. Mitsubishi dealers have already started accepting orders for a steep booking amount of INR 10 lakhs!

The ageing SUV is priced at INR 68.45 lakhs (ex-showroom). The old Montero which was priced at around INR 40 lakhs didn’t have a fighting chance against SUVs from luxury brands, so we don’t get the rationale behind launching a facelifted version of the same old SUV with an eye-watering price tag four years later.

Anyway, Mitsubishi is expected to commence deliveries of the updated Montero by October this year. The new version receives significantly revised front fascia complete with new headlamps, grille, bonnet and bumper. The profile is more or less unchanged while the rear fascia receives tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

The Montero is powered by the same 3.2-litre diesel engine which is paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 4×4 system. The motor develops 200 PS and 441 Nm of torque. As of now, Mitsubishi India has only the Pajero Sport on sale.
