2016 Skoda Superb spied in India: Debut at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo?

Volkswagen Group owned Czech automaker Skoda is to launch the third generation 2016 Skoda Superb in India next year. Prior to this, the luxury sedan will go on display at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February 2016.

With a price set to be around 10-12 percent higher than its current counterpart, the new Superb will compete with Toyota Camry and upcoming new Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord.

Based on the VW MQB platform, wheelbase of 2016 Skoda Superb has increased by 80mm. Despite this, it is 75 kgs lighter than its predecessor and is also 47mm wider and 28mm longer. For European markets the new Superb is offered in 5 petrol engines and 3 diesel engines mated to a 6 speed manual or DSG while in India the Superb will be powered by a 2.0 liter TDI diesel engine mated to a DSG gearbox and a 1.8 liter TSI engine. These engines comply with EU6 emission norms and slated to offer 30 percent higher efficiency as compared to the present model.

2016 Skoda Superb on launch in India will be seen with some added interior equipment. These will include dual zone climate control, multi function steering wheel, electric and ventilated seats, Skoda SmartLink entertainment system, leather upholstery, reverse camera and cruise control. Other features will also include navigation system, powered seats, sunroof, Bi-Xenon headlights and cornering lights. The new Skoda will sport a multi slat chrome front grille, multi spoke alloy wheels and C shaped LED tail lights.

The new Skoda Superb made global premiere at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

Skoda India will be bringing the new Superb into India via the CBU route. At the same time, the company is keen to enhance localisation levels on all its cars in India so as to keep prices competitive.
