Finally, after a series of teasers, Skoda has unveiled 2016 Superb sedan at a glittering event in Prague, Czech Republic. New Superb will make its public debut early next month at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Skoda claims that the new Superb’s front conveys self-assurance and power. Overall, the new design conveys elegance, strength and dynamism, adds Skoda. We completely agree. Compared to the old second gen Skoda, this new one is more sharper and sportier. 2016 Superb features a sculpted hood, similar to what was seen on the Vision C Concept, on which the new Skoda Superb is based.
To give long car a better balance, the designers have decreased the front overhangs by 61 mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 80 mm, this extra space is added to the passengers comfort on the inside. In the front, the driver and passengers now get 39 mm of extra elbow room, while rear passengers elbow room has been increased by 69 mm. Speaking about the legroom for rear passengers, it stands at 157 mm, more than double of what any other car in the segment offers. Headroom is at 980mm, which too is best in segment. Boot space is increased to 625 litres, 30 litres more than outgoing Superb.
2016 Superb is built on the same platform as that of new Volkswagen Passat B8. This new platform makes the car rigid, yet lighter. Compared to the outgoing Superb, new Superb is 75 kgs lighter. Engine options on board includes a series of petrol and diesel engine options, all of which are mated to a DSG as standard, except for the base petrol, which gets manual transmission. Five petrol engine options are on offer, power output ranges from 125 PS to 280 PS, three diesel engines are on offer, power ranging from 120 PS to 190 PS.
