Suzuki Motorcycle India reports 1.1 percent growth in the domestic market in December 2019. Sales is reported at 44,368 units in December 2019 up from 43,874 units sold in December 2018.
SMIPL reports total monthly sales of 52,351 units (Domestic + Exports) in December 2019. That’s flat sales when compared to 52,362 units sold in December last year. For FY20, cumulative YTD (April – December 2019) sales is reported at 616,392 units.
Though sales was slow in December 2019 for Suzuki Motorcycle India, its performance in recent months has remained in the green. Especially, since the ongoing market slowdown has adversely affected sales of most major auto manufacturers.
SMIPL maintained growth momentum despite the slowdown. However this wouldn’t have been quite as difficult considering the manufacturers total sales volume is quite small to begin with. In 2019, the company also introduced its Gixxer 250.
Now, with the advent of 2020, Suzuki is gearing up to transition its products to meet BSVI norms. This the company says will be done ‘way ahead of the deadline’. The deadline being April 1, 2020.
Just last month, Suzuki Motorcycle India announced that it would get on with transitioning from BSIV to BSVI products from January 2020. Access 125 BSVI will be the first on offer. In its BSVI avatar, the scooter features Eco Assist illumination, Fuel Injection engine, External fuel filling lid and LED headlamp. 2020 Suzuki Access 125 will return max power of 8.7ps@6750rpm, and max torque of 10Nm@5500rpm.
All-New Suzuki Access 125 features a long seat, enlarged floorboard larger under-seat storage and easy start system. The Special Edition model will offer standard USB DC socket for charging mobile phones.
Post the launch of Suzuki Access 125 BS6 scooter, the company will launch BS6 variants of the Gixxer 155, Gixxer 250, Intruder and Burgman variants. Expect prices of all BS6 variants to be higher as compared to BS4 variants.
Apart from this, new launches are also planned. One of them is the launch of Burgman 150 BS6. A more powerful variant of the existing Burgman 125cc. Suzuki India has not yet confirmed the launch, but unconfirmed sources suggest launch will take place at the 2020 Auto Expo next month.
