2016 Toyota Fortuner global premiere on 17th July: Will feature new powerful engines

The second generation Fortuner SUV is built on the updated IMV platform, which is not only more rigid but is also lighter. This will have a change the driving dynamics of the SUV in a positive way.

To be offered with new range of Toyota GD engines, 1GD-FTV and 2GD-FTV; new Fortuner will be more efficient, powerful and less harmful to the environment as compared to the outgoing variant. Both these new engines were detailed during the launch of the Hilux Revo in May this year.

Toyota Hilux Revo is a pickup truck which is also based on the same IMV platform as that of the new Fortuner’s. Hilux Revo is basically the pickup truck variant of Fortuner.

Fortuner SUV will carry the same exterior and interior styling as that of the Hilux Revo.

The new 1GD-FTV engine is a 2754 cc diesel four cylinder mill generating 177 PS at 3400 rpm and 450 Nm torque at 1600-2400 rpm while the 2GD-FTV is a 2393 cc four cylinder diesel engine which offers 150 PS power at 3400 rpm and 400 Nm torque at 1600-2200 rpm.

Both these engines will also be manufactured in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors (Toyota India) aims to achieve 80% localization levels on board the new Fortuner and Innova once their new engine plant starts production. This new plant is built at an investment of Rs 800 crores and will start trial production soon, indicating that the launch of new Fortuner and Innova in India is on schedule.

In Thailand, the new Fortuner will be offered with both these engines and a petrol engine, but in India; new Fortuner is expected to get only 2.8l diesel, while new Innova is to get the 2.4l mill. Depending on the response, India too will get the 2.4l engine on board the new Fortuner; this will bring the starting price of new SUV to a new level.

Features on board 2016 Toyota Fortuner will include cruise control, auto AC, steering mounted controls, keyless entry start/stop button, hill assist, traction control, seven airbags, ABS, EBD, dynamic control suspension, 17 inch alloys and much more.
