Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s product plans till 2020 have come to a light and as per new intel, production of current gen Innova, barring the commercial sector-spec GX variant, would be ceased in three months’ time to make way for upcoming model. The base model would continue to be produced for roughly another year.
TKM’s new found focus on safety means, 2016 Toyota Innova will be packed up to the brim with standard safety features like ABS and airbags. New design inside out, next gen IMV platform, downsized yet more powerful 2.4-litre diesel motor, and new 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes would inflate the MPV’s ex-showroom price tag by INR 1-1.5 lakhs. That said, on-road price for the fully loaded variant is not expected to exceed INR 22 lakhs.
During first year of sale, new Innova will can only be registered as a private vehicle. This marks a clear upshift in market positioning.
Toyota is also reportedly working on introducing the Lexus brand in India later this year. Next year would see Toyota Vios (Honda City rival) and Rush (Ford EcoSport rival) being launched in India. Between Lexus and Toyota, a total of 30 products are expected to be in pipeline for India till 2020.
By January 2016, all TKM models would come with ABS as standard fitment. The future roadmap doesn’t appear to have a provision for a facelifted Etios Cross.
