2016 Toyota Land Cruiser facelift has been spied up close in Europe without any camouflage, signalling an imminent global premiere. Latest spyshots reveal only the front fascia but that’s where majority of the visual changes are concentrated.
The revamped front end carries a hexagonal chrome grille which extends into new bi-xenon headlamps. The bumper features a prominent chrome insert with ‘Land Cruiser’ inscribing and chrome foglight surrounds. The bonnet too is reprofiled to blend in.
Previous leaks revealed that rear fascia undergoes relatively less extensive cosmetic changes with only taillights and bumpers being tweaked. It’s also said to receive a thicker chrome strip on the tailgate.
Interior would get a new steering wheel, larger touchscreen infotainment system and refined centre console layout. New dashboard trims are also in the offing.
Details on mechanical changes are sparse but international media reports are suggesting that the new 2.8-litre Toyota GD diesel engine which debuted in new Hilux could be introduced as an entry level motor. In India, the stately SUV is likely to continue with the monster of a V8 diesel motor displacing 4.5-litre.
Toyota is importing Land Cruiser into India as a CBU and hence the 2016 model should be here in a few months after its international sales debut.
