New generation 2017 Audi A5 Sportback has been spied undisguised in Mumbai, India. The image above was clicked by Sheriyar Shaikh while the car was testing on the empty roads of Navi Mumbai earlier today.
Zauba reveals that Audi India has imported a single unit of Audi A5 Sportback into the country. This seems to be the same unit which has now been spied.
Scheduled to make global debut in the coming weeks, Audi has over the years stated that testing their cars in India is part of their strategy, and not necessarily means that the car will be launched in the country. Different terrain and weather in India helps the R&D team to collect important data pertaining to the vehicle’s behaviour.
In European market, Audi A5 Sportback should make debut a few weeks after the debut of the new A5 coupe, which is to happen on 2nd June 2016 at Audi’s home, in Ingolstadt, Germany.
Teased already, Audi A5 coupe is a three-door avatar based on the same platform as that of the sportback, which is seen with five doors. Both variants are based on the MLB platform.
Like all new Audi’s of today, A5 should come loaded with features like Matrix LED headlights, LED taillights, Bang & Olufsen surround sound music system, Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch LCD display, MMI infotainment, leather upholstery, and so on.
Engine options are yet to be confirmed. The one which has been imported into India, is powered by a 1968 cc turbo diesel engine. This engine is rated at 190 PS and 400 Nm. For US, expect a 2.0l petrol generating 256 PS and 370 Nm to be on offer.
Once launched, Audi A5 Sportback could very well take on the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, while the A5 Coupe will rival the C-Class and 4 Series coupe variants.
