Scheduled to have its world premiere later today, 2017 BMW 5 Series has been detailed via leaked studio shots. With European launch is set for sometime early next year, the 7th generation BMW 5 Series has already entered production at the company plant in Germany.
Based on the new 7 Series’ CLAR (CLuster ARchitecture) platform the new BMW 5 Series will be around 100 kgs lighter than its existing counterpart.
Doors, roof and rear decklid will be made from aluminum while magnesium will be seen on B pillars as against the carbon fiber beam seen on the 7 Series. It will sport revised exteriors to include a new kidney-shaped grille, headlight clusters, sporty bumpers and extended airdams. A distinctive crease line will be seen running across its width while at the rear, new LED tail lamps will be evident in a rounded design.
Interiors of the 2017 BMW 5 Series was noted with a host of features from the 7 Series with a sleeker steering wheel design, full digital instrument cluster and an iDrive monitor which could get gesture controls.
Engine specifications on the 2017 BMW 3 Series will include both petrol and diesel options with displacement ranging from 2.0 to 4.4 liter while a plug-in hybrid powertrain could also be seen. These engines could be mated to 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions. While further details are set to be revealed up ahead, deliveries are confirmed for early 2017 while pricing of base model could start at $50,000 (INR 33,95,000).
