BMW has revealed its new 5 Series sedan. This is the 7th generation of the 5 Series, one of the best selling BMW globally. The new 5er comes with more powerful engines which makes it quicker than its predecessor. The car will go on sale in February 2017 while pricing will be announced closer to launch date.
The 2017 BMW 5 Series now measures 36mm longer, 6mm wider and 2mm taller than its earlier counterpart while it sits on a 7mm longer wheelbase. Leg room for rear passengers is therefore at a premium while boot capacity has been increased to 530 liters.
The sedan is based on the CLAR – Cluster Architecture platform. Thanks to the efficient use of lightweight material, the overall weight has gone down considerably. The M Sport packing will see the inclusion of an aero kit and performance upgrades along with lower suspension and larger wheels and tyres.
In its interiors, 2017 BMW 5 Series will receive several upgrades. BMW iDrive 6.0 infotainment system with gesture controls, voice control and heads up display will be evident along with 16 speaker, 600 watt Harmon Kardon sound system. Better on board comforts, quieter interiors with sound deadening material and multi contour massage seats will be on offer.
Safety features available on the new 5 Series will be the latest in driver assistance and safety equipment with radar cruise control, lane departure warning system and lane keeping assist. Parking has been made safer through 3D surround view and ParkNow parking reservation system.
2017 BMW 5 Series will be powered by 2 petrol and 2 diesel engine options. These include a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder offering 248 hp on the 530i while the 540i gets a 3.0 liter inline six offering 335 hp. Diesel engine options include a 2.0 liter on board the 530d while a 3.0 liter engine makes its way onto the 530d.
