The 2015 BMW 740e Hybrid luxury sedan is on display at 2016 Geneva Motor Show alongside the M760Li xDrive variant. Marketed under the new iPerformance brand the plug-in hybrid sedan is available in three variants – 740e iPerformance, 740Le iPerformance and 740Le xDrive iPerformance.
Powering the hybrid 7er is a 258 PS 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor. Combined system output stands at 326 PS with a pure electric drive range of 40 km for the rear wheel drive variants and 37 km for the xDrive all-wheel drive model.
The 2017 740e Hybrid is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.5 seconds yet delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 2.1 – 2.3 litres/100 km (upto 47.61 kmpl depending on the variant). Tailpipe emissions are rated at 49 g/km of CO2. The 9.2 Kwh battery can be charged through regular wall socket in 4 hours while BMW i Wallbox reduces the time to under 3 hours.
The equipment level of the hybrid model is identical to the regular 7 Series variants which is to say that it comes packed to the gills with safety and comfort features. The 2017 BMW 740e Hybrid receives a Driving Experience Control switch and a new configurable adaptive driving mode in addition to regular Eco, Pro, Comfort and Sport modes.
