The 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport (called as the Avante Sport in South Korea), the performance variant of the latest gen Elantra, has been launched in South Korea. The performance-oriented sedan is priced between 19,630,000 won (around INR 11.43 lakhs) and 24,100,000 won (around INR 14.04 lakhs).
The Elantra Sport features a 1.6-litre GDI turbocharged direct injection petrol engine which is tuned to belt out 204 PS and 265 Nm of torque. The sporty sedan can be specified either with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car benefits from a standard multi-link suspension system. The fully-loaded Extreme Selection variant adds a rear spoiler, sportier stabilizer bars and upgraded springs and dampers.
Visually, the Elantra Sport differentiates itself from the regular variants by means of LED headlamps, a hexagonal grille with glossy black frame and chrome horizontal slats, a sporty bumper with black chin air splitter and LED DRLs, side skirts, 18-inch alloy wheels, new taillight detailing and a black diffuser with twin tailpipes.
Inside, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, carbon fibre-like trims, dual-tone bucket seats with exterior color coordinated elements are the feature highlights. The Elantra Sport will target young audience.
The Hyundai Elantra Sport would be launched in other global markets in a phased manner. Given that the market for a powerful entry level D-Segment petrol sedan is nearly non-existent in India, only the regular variants of the new gen Elantra are expected to be launched here in due course.
