2017 Compass is a new generation Jeep, which will play a major role in achieving the company’s target of selling 1.9 million units annually by 2018. This is the first ever Jeep which will be sold in over 100 countries across the globe in 17 different powertrain options and 50 different trims.
Launched in India at a starting price of INR 14.95 lakh, the parent company has already received 8,171 confirm orders for the car. On this basis alone, the company will be generating a revenue of $245 million (INR 1,570 crore). This means, once booking number crosses the 10,000 mark, FCA India will have generated more revenue than they have invested in the Jeep Compass (which is $280 million).
India is one of the four countries where the new Jeep is manufactured. Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant near Pune is currently ramping up production to meet the huge demand. Earlier, only one shift was operating, soon there will be two shifts producing the Compass.
New Jeep Compass sports enhanced performance and better fuel efficiency. Measuring 4,410mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,640mm in height, 2017 Jeep Compass sits on a 2,630 mm long wheelbase. Engine options for India includes a 2.0 liter diesel engine and a 1.4 liter petrol engine. The diesel engine is rated at 170+ hp and 350 Nm torque while the petrol engine delivers 160+ hp and 250 Nm. Transmission options on offer are 6 MT and Dual Dry Clutch 7 Speed AT. Drive options will include FWD as well as AWD.

In addition to that it also gets Frequency Sensing Damping (FSD) as standard, allowing a never before experienced cabin NVH experience in the segment.
FCA India has not revealed as to how many units of Compass will be manufactured annually in India. Our sources tell us that India plant is expected to produce about 60,000 units of new Jeep Compass. The total capacity of the plant as of today is to produce 1.6 lakh vehicles annually.
