2017 Maruti Swift is steadily approaching its world premiere and it has been spotted testing in Europe once again. The prototype is heavily disguised but one can make out the basic production-spec sheet metal design and taillights.
The final production version is in line with the design sketches that were leaked at a dealer conference earlier this year.
The new Swift is based on Suzuki’s latest global compact platform which is lighter and more rigid than before. The global supermini would be packing more equipment and is expected to have a better crash rating.
Interior (also leaked) adopts a brand new dashboard design. We expect the cabin to feature better quality materials and roomier rear bench. To be positioned below the Baleno, the Swift will cater to a young audience with its sporty appeal and efficient powertrain.
Speaking of powertrain, the 2017 Swift is expected to adopt the 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine in addition to an improved version of the existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine. The hatchback may get a new homegrown compact diesel motor.
The range-topping Swift sport is reported to feature the 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbocharged petrol motor. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be on offer.
The 2017 Maruti Swift will continue to have India and Europe as its primary markets. Launch here is expected sometime in the later part of next year.
