Nissan Sunny, Micra removed from India website – Only Kicks, GT-R listed

Nissan’s Micra, Micra Activa, Sunny and Terrano have been removed from the official website ahead of BS6 implementation

The Indian automotive industry has shifted to BS6 emission norms. Certain brands have used this opportunity to launch mid-life facelifts or new generations of their most demanded models. However, a few have remained dormant amidst this phase; Nissan India being a prime example.

On its official Indian website, the Japanese automaker currently lists only two products: BS6 Kicks and GT-R! Certainly two extremes, the products occupy space which was previously shared with models such as the Micra, Micra Active, Sunny and Terrano.

The 2020MY Nissan Kicks BS6 is yet to be launched but we have shared most of its details a few weeks back. Bookings for the compact crossover open on May 15. Its launch is expected to take place around the same time. For the BS6 era, Nissan has discontinued the sought-after K9K 1.5-litre DCi diesel mill (co-developed with Renault). Prices are expected to start at around Rs 9.5 lakh ex-showroom.

On the other hand, the new Nissan Kicks will debut an HR13 1.3-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine packing 154bhp and 254Nm of torque (the highest in its class). It is mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-step CVT. The old 1.5-litre H4K petrol mill will be updated to BS6 specifications and equipped on lower variants. It is good for 105bhp and 142Nm of torque and comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The old 1.5 diesel power plant had served in a range of Nissan and Renault products sold in India as well as other emerging markets. In the BS4 Nissan Kicks, it churned out 108bhp and 240Nm but was available in varied tunes depending on the vehicle segment.

Datsun India, a subsidiary of Nissan India, plans to launch the BS6 redi-GO facelift later this month. Bookings for the budget hatchback also start on May 15. Sharing internals with the BS6 Renault Kwid, the 2020MY Datsun redi-GO sports several cosmetic and equipment updates. Ex-showroom prices should start from just under Rs 3 lakh.

It was only recently that Nissan discontinued Datsun in Indonesia on account of poor sales. Manufacturing plants which previously made Datsun models would be refurbished to produce or assemble various Nissan models including the Livina MPV (based on Mitsubishi’s Xpander). Various reports state that Nissan intends to exit European markets to focus on the US, Japan and China. The company is heading to a new business direction. A new brand logo will be part of this.
